Volunteer Opportunities

Barn Cleaning

We need volunteers to help clean the barn and stalls, and help with any small projects we may have that day at our sanctuary in Lindstrom, MN. Barn cleaning occurs every Saturday morning at 9:30.  Cleaning typically lasts two hours – although there are often opportunities to work longer if you want!

Everyone above the age of 12 is welcome to assist with barn cleaning. Those between 12 and 16 must be accompanied by an adult; those between 16-18 must have a waiver signed by a parent on file. You must be able to engage in moderate physical activity. Sign up here!

There will be time to visit with the animals once the work is done!

There is no prior training or minimum time commitment required to assist with barn cleaning. You can help once or on a regular basis.

Farm Animal Care

We  need volunteers to assist with caring for our residents during farm opening and closing at our sanctuary in Lindstrom, MN. Tasks include letting out or closing in the residents, feeding (feed & hay distribution), stall cleaning, refreshing residents’ water, and observing animal behavior / health for potential problems. Opening and closing tasks typically take 1-2 hours.

Farm Animal Care volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. You must be comfortable working with large farm animals (e.g., cows and pigs); prior farm animal experience is not required, but is beneficial. Finally, Farm Animal Care volunteers must be reliable – the health and well-being of our residents depends on it!

Farm Animal Care volunteers must attend an Animal Care Training, which are held Saturday mornings at 9:30 (see the Volunteer Calendar to sign up) and shadow a trained employee 2-3 times (to be arranged with Kelly or Shannon at Animal Care Training) before signing up for independent shifts. After you are trained, you can sign up for regular (e.g., weekly) shifts or be available as needed. If you go several months without a shift, you may be asked to attend a refresher training prior to signing up for an independent shift.
